Export - Mac Version don't, but PC Version do!

Postby treehaus1 » Fri Nov 27, 2009 3:56 pm

Hallo stereo-heads!

please feel free to move/edit this rant as necessary. Because it's a bug report.

Found Problem:
Trying to export hi-res (1080 high) seperate left/right images from a beamsplitter snapped-shot in the Mac Version of FF V 3.0.3.4 resulted in the picture you can see attached marked 1080.
I also include the 720 and 360 high versions for your further amusement. Please note the irony - there was only one of the two sides exported, which judging from the 340 version must be the right hand side, but its a bit tricky for me to tell.

However, opening the PC version of Frameforge using Bootcamp on the same machine, the 1080 high version was exported as it should be - 2 pristine jpgs.

So the problem seems to be the MacOS exporter (and printer?) don't seem to be doing what the PC version can do on the same machine.

I would of course like to stick to my mac OS where the rest of my life is, until such time as we are all together in a cloud somewhere.

Can this be fixed?

Lots of love,

Simon Sieverts

PS have I said recently how mazin this software already is?

When you exported, did you select the "Antialias" option?

What is your version of the Mac OS? What kind of graphics card does your Mac have?

Anti-alias twas the culprit!

By jove, James has found it

:-))))

- I tried again without antialiasing and Bingo - even in IMAX-like 1080 each stereo picture produced 2 separate Images as output.

I am running FF3.0.3.2 (3D) on my iMac 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB 800MHz Memory, OS X 10.5.8, ATI Radeon HD 2400.

Question: is antialiasing evil?

Best,

Antialiasing (at least by the present method) requires first rendering the image at twice the size in each dimension. This requires 4 times as much video memory. Some video cards will be able to handle that, some not. I tried exporting stereo images at 1080 high with antialiasing on my MacBook Pro with an Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT, and it worked.

Things to do seem to be piling up this weekend, but when I get a chance, I will think about whether this export task can be done in a way that puts less load on the video card.

I'm wondering whether the problem in this topic might be related to a bug seen in a newer model of iMac, discussed in this topic. Please update to the current version and see if there's any change.
