Arri Alexa Camera setting

Postby Kenster » Mon May 23, 2011 2:00 pm

Is there anyway of having the Arri Alexa camera settings on FF3? I'm not technically enough informed to manually set it up ... I'll be shooting on the Arri Alexa on my poject ... 2:35 probably at 4k

Thank you

Hey Kenny:

The Arri Alexa parameters are already available in the latest version of FrameForge Previz Studio 3. Simply go to FILE -> SET FILM/FRAME SIZE -> HIGH DEFINITION VIDEO and then the appropriate Arri Alexa.

When shooting in 2.35, do you know if it's anamorphically squeezed or simply masked? I would expect the latter. In that case then you can just take the recording width of the Alexa, create a new Alexa size and divide the recording width by 2.35 and you have your new film frame size.

If it's anamorphically squeezed then I believe you leave it as is.

Hope this helps!

I have the latest version of FF3 but on the High Definition Video drop down menu the Arri Alexa isn't an option! Is there a way to download it or load it in?

Are you on Mac or Windows? Have you run HELP -> CHECK FOR PROGRAM UPDATES?

Ok. I have Arri Alexa on my menu but I'm still unclear about how to create an aspect ratio of 2:35 ... I imagine it will be masked as opposed to squeezed

I'm not clear on which Arri Alexa model you have. We have settings for the EV, EV Plus, and OV. Is yours one of those, or some new kind that we don't know about yet?

If your camera is basically an EV or EV Plus, but with a mask to change the aspect ratio, then here's what you'd do:

  1. Open the "Set Film/Video Frame Size" dialog.
  2. Click the "Create New Size" button.
  3. Set the film size pop-up to High Definition Video.
  4. Assign it some aperture name of your choice.
  5. Set the aspect ratio to 2.35.
  6. Set the film width to 23.79 (same as what we show for EV and EV-Plus).
  7. Click OK to close the second dialog and save the new format.
  8. Select the new size in the first dialog and click OK.
