Deadfall

Hi, my name is Pete Nilson, my wife and I are writers/directors/producers on our low budget survival horror movie, Deadfall.

We previz'd the opening scene, a mini-zombie movie itself, by snapping over 200 frames in FFv2 and piecing them together, then added the dialogue from rehearsals, and had some great music composed for it as well.

The quality is low, but you get the idea.

This is why my #1 wish for FFv3 is that it'll do rough animation - we don't have the time to do the rest of the film like this, it's just "regular" storyboarding, but I do believe the future will be animated previz very soon, so hopefully FF continues to improve this way.

That was awsome, the style was just like watching Le Jette. I have a couple of questions for you.

1)Do you have a higher quality version to watch?
2)How long did it take to create it in FF?

I'm going to head over and checkout your site now.

Better quality video

9megs.

How long to create, hmm, if I could sit down, no interruptions or distractions and just hammer at it, couple of days. But because no interruptions or distractions is an impossibility at this point, it was a spread over a week or two.

Once you get the hang of using FF in a way it's not quite meant to be used, it gets pretty easy. Still tedious, but fun tedious.

Nicely done! I especially liked the the final chase from the low camera angle.

Two suggestions, first, record better sound. The echo and boom in your teaser sounds woefully inept. Generally, viewers will tolerate murky or poorly focused visuals (yours were good though) but they won't stand for bad sound as it's the tell-tale sign of an amateur.

Secondly, you might want to download a free web program call Monkey Jam (www.giantscreamingrobotmonkeys.com/monkeyjam). It wil animate your FF3D shots (JPEGs) nicely.

I've made animatics with FF3D, I know it's hard work! More power to you!

Good luck!

The dialogue was taken from a rehearsal, it's all we had, and while not great, is better than silence. Glad you enjoyed it!

Cleaner version is up in the gallery now. Took the starting dialogue out too.

Getting ready for the fall of 2007!
