Update History
To update your FrameForge 3D Studio, pull down the Help menu and choose Check for Program Updates. This runs the WebGrab-FF2 program that is in the same folder as FrameForge.
If your version of WebGrab-FF2 is less than 6.0, or if you are having trouble using your version of WebGrab, download the latest version from this link:
ftp://ftp.frameforge3d.com/webgrab/WebGrab-FF2.app.zip
Unzip it, put it in your FrameForge 3D Studio V2 folder, and trash the old version.
FrameForge Version 2.5.52, August 20, 2008
New Features:
- The Shot Manager has a new Move button, providing a way to rearrange
shots that some may find more convenient than drag and drop. You select
some shots, then click the move button, then click where you want the
shots to end up.
FrameForge Version 2.5.51, August 8, 2008
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- The VRML importer is a little more tolerant of funky parts in the VRML
data.
- The VRML import process warns you, or in some cases stops the import, if
the VRML model is too poorly optimized for reasonable use in FrameForge.
FrameForge Version 2.5.50, July 30, 2008
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Added a Help menu item to display the manual additions for the 2.5
update.
- Shots imported as graphics are no longer scaled down to 300 pixels high,
and can export and print at higher resolution.
- When a shot list is exported as an RTF table, the header row will appear
at the top of each page (at least in MS Word).
FrameForge Version 2.5.49, July 22, 2008
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed an inability to open some cross-platform project files that
contained scene names imported from scripts.
FrameForge Version 2.5.48, June 26, 2008
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed a bug that caused an actor with something glued to it to become
scaled wildly after a sequence of events involving Edit Pose on Set and
the Green Room.
- There are some new high-definition video film/frame size options.
FrameForge Version 2.5.47, June 23, 2008
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed a bug in the Reach For command on Intel Macs.
FrameForge Version 2.5.46, May 23, 2008
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed a bug in cartoon-style rendering. It looks like this got broken in version 2.5.41, about a month ago.
FrameForge Version 2.5.45, May 16, 2008
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed several Green Room problems that arose with
actors from the new Emergency Response expansion pack:
- If there are many switches, they can scroll.
- Special handling for the "open chest" morph for surgical
patients.
- The list of body morphs included an item "head:fat-hat" that should
not have been there.
- Fixed a bug that prevented opening some previz project files.
FrameForge Version 2.5.44, May 14, 2008
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed a bug installing the new Emergency Response expansion pack.
- Fixed a bug involving copying and pasting cameras.
FrameForge Version 2.5.43, May 8, 2008
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- The previous update introduced a bug in which half of the disks on the
bone rotation "jack" were nonfunctional. This has been corrected.
- The initial orientation of the bone rotation "jack" is now more likely
to be appropriate for bending fingers, for example, in a natural
way.
FrameForge Version 2.5.42, May 7, 2008
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- When you save a pose for an actor that has objects glued to it, you will
be asked whether the pose should only be visible when those objects are
glued to it.
- The file format menu items in the preferences dialog have been
clarified.
- Certain technical changes were made in preparation for an upcoming
expansion pack.
Object Library, May 5, 2008
The cash register has been updated to have sharper edges.
FrameForge Version 2.5.41, April 15, 2008
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Under Leopard (OS 10.5), the dialog in which one saves a virtual object
had a strange behavior when editing the name of a glued object: the text
being editing appeared in the wrong part of the window. This is
probably Apple’s bug, but we rebuilt the dialog to fix it. You might
notice a slight change in the name field, which is now a true “combo
box” instead of a text field next to a pop-up menu.
- Fixed a bug in which use of a control pad to scale an object up could
cause an infinitely repeating error message.
- The fat face morph now cooperates better with various hair styles.
- Files with the .azp file extension can now be dropped into the object
library area of the main window. Also, the bogus “.zip” extension
tacked on when such a file is downloaded using Safari is ignored.
FrameForge Version 2.5.40, March 11, 2008
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed a bug in which the boy actors assumed a neutral facial expression
whenever taken into the expression editor.
- Fixed a Room Builder problem that occurred in the previous build, in
which changing to a magnification other than 100% made the room builder
unusable.
FrameForge Version 2.5.39, February 27, 2008
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- In the Edit Pose on Set window, the pose intensity
slider is dimmed when no pose is selected, preventing a crash if one
accidentally touched the slider in that case.
- In Room Builder, clicking the drawing area takes the
keyboard focus away from the text editing fields. This fixes a bug in
which it was not possible to delete a door or room after a text field
had been used.
- In Room Builder, when you edit a text field such as room
length, the change is not enacted until a second after you have stopped
typing. This is to alleviate a problem in which a door could disappear
due to a room momentarily becoming small while one was editing its
dimensions.
- The control pad setup dialog has had small changes to its text and
images.
FrameForge Version 2.5.38, February 25, 2008
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- When you start dragging an object, the count of selected objects updates
immediately rather than after the mouse button is released. In the case
of dragging a camera in the blueprint view, the viewing angle display
updates as soon as you start dragging.
- Fixed a bug that interfered with saving poses for objects with
counterbalanced hinges, such as the new laboratory scale.
- Added a menu item on the Tools menu that provides yet another way to
install an expansion pack.
- The menu items to import sets from set collections and
previz projects have been merged, so that you do not need to know in
advance whether the file you are looking for is a set collection or a
previz project.
- Fixed bugs in installation of the Stock Sets expansion
pack.
FrameForge Version 2.5.37, February 6, 2008
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed a bug that on some machines caused views to temporarily turn black
after the control room window had been resized.
- Fixed a bug that sometimes caused a crash after deleting all cameras
from the set.
FrameForge Version 2.5.36, January 29, 2008
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- FrameForge can now handle objects with counterbalanced hinges, e.g., as
one hinge moves one way, another moves at another pivot point in the
reverse direction. This allows for counterbalancing such as keeping a
platform level as an arm is levered up to raise it. An example of this
is the new Laboratory Scale.
- Fixed a bug that made it possible to select a camera by marquee
selection when looking through another camera, even though cameras
are not visible except in blueprint view.
FrameForge Version 2.5.35, January 18, 2008
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- An Apple bug in their 3D graphics software sometimes caused
FrameForge to appear to freeze while printing or snapping shots in cartoon style. We have worked around the bug. As a result there is a very slight change in the appearance of cartoon style.
- When you create tweens in a set that has a prime lens collection, you
have an option of making the tweens conform to the prime collection.
- Fixed a cosmetic error in the VRML import dialog.
- The cursor changes to a pointing hand when over certain clickable parts
that did not change the cursor before, such as the arms of an extra or
the needles of a Christmas tree.
- Added support for an idiosyncratic game pad.
Object Library, December 6, 2007
The child actors (boy and girl) have been updated so that their bodies can be textured or have decals applied.
FBX to FrameForge Converter 1.6.1, November 30, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed a bug that sometimes caused .fbx files to be dimmed in the open dialog and hence not selectable.
- Fixed a bug that caused the texture not to appear in the texture size dialog when running under Mac OS 10.4.x (Tiger).
FBX to FrameForge Converter 1.6, November 29, 2007
New Features:
- When the converter processes textures larger than 256 x 256 pixels, it gives you the option of reducing them to more moderate sizes.
- In the normals list, you can specify that a mesh should be rendered double-sided. In most cases this is not needed, because a mesh has an inside and an outside, and the inside never needs to be visible.
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- The converter can now handle models where meshes have more than 26 textures per mesh or where meshes have degenerate polygons.
FrameForge Version 2.5.34, November 14, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- When an expansion pack is dropped on FrameForge, FrameForge comes to the
front so that you can see any request for a serial number or progress
dialog.
- Fixed the color shown for a textured part (i.e., the color that would
appear if you were to remove the texture) in the green room.
- When FrameForge starts up, it performs some sanity checks on the volume
on which it is installed.
- Fixed a minor bug that sometimes showed the wrong OS version in the
registration dialog.
WebGrab 6.2.2, November 16, 2007
This minor update makes sure that WebGrab is in the foreground when it starts up. This is mainly an issue when it has been opened indirectly, as by the installer.
FrameForge Version 2.5.33, November 14, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed an error in setting permissions when installing expansion
packs.
- Fixed bugs that prevented you from typing negative numbers in the
dialogs where you position an object or camera numerically.
FBX to FrameForge Converter 1.5.2, November 14, 2007
This update improves handling of models with multiple bind poses.
FrameForge Version 2.5.32, November 5, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed a bug that made the Mac think that the control key was stuck down
if you disconnected a game controller while FrameForge was running.
- When tweening with depth of field is possible, the option to do so is
initially checked.
- Fixed a rendering bug when creating tweens in cartoon style.
- In Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5), fixed a bug that caused the edit fields in
the Shot Manager to center their text.
- In Panther (Mac OS X 10.3), fixed a bug in which the Shot Manager and
storyboard preview area lacked an indication of which shots were tweens.
FrameForge Version 2.5.31, October 19, 2007
This update made minor changes relating to expansion packs.
FrameForge Version 2.5.30, October 18, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- In Free Positioning Mode, within the usual "Rotate View" sub-mode,
pressing the Shift key changes the cursor to an arrow or pointing hand,
making it easier to select an object.
- Yet another change in preparation for coming expansion packs.
FrameForge Version 2.5.29, October 18, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- It takes a smaller mouse motion to make a throttle slider appear without
a delay.
- In Panther (Mac OS X 10.3.9), the Green Room subobject pop-up menu was
not working at all.
- If the Green Room subobject pop-up menu was set to "hinges in all glued
objects", the controls for hinges in subobjects were visible but not
functional.
- Fixed a bug that put a wall in a weird state that could not be taken
back into the Room Builder if you used the Room Builder
to change a door from a sliding door to a swinging door or vice versa.
FrameForge Version 2.5.28, October 5, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Accept expansion packs whose extensions were "helpfully" changed by
Safari from .cpack to .cpack.zip.
- If you change a texture file while FrameForge is running, and then
re-apply the image as a texture, FrameForge is supposed to update the
texture to the modified image. That was not happening if the image was
128x128 or smaller.
FrameForge Version 2.5.27, October 3, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- In Free Positioning Mode, the left/right tilt works a bit differently,
tilting about an axis pointing directly away from the camera, rather
than an axis parallel from the floor. The difference is more noticeable
when you look down at steep angles.
- Fixed a bug in which objects near the camera were sometimes visually
clipped off when leaving Free Positioning Mode.
- More changes to prepare for upcoming expansion packs.
FrameForge Version 2.5.26, September 26, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- The VRML importer can import some objects that previously could not be
imported.
- Fixed bug where VRML import triggered a hint that could not be
suppressed.
- Fixed a bug in applying relations in which an object had been
mirrored.
- Added keyboard shortcuts to the Glue, Unglue, and Unglue All commands on
the Objects menu.
WebGrab 6.2, September 25, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- There were internal changes in preparation for upcoming expansion packs.
- Fixed a crash in the compression function (which is not essential to the main purpose of WebGrab) on Intel Macs.
- Updated copyright in About box.
FrameForge Version 2.5.25, September 18, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed a bug (introduced in version 2.5.22) in applying a texture or
decal by choosing an image file that is not in the Texture Library.
- Fixed a bug in saving and using relationships between scaled
objects.
FrameForge Version 2.5.24, September 13, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed a bug that sometimes caused a dual-resolution object (such as a
version 1 actor or "extra" actor) to render in low resolution
even after you turned on high-resolution display.
- Fixed a bug that caused textures to display in low resolution in the
Green Room under certain conditions.
- Fixed a bug (introduced in version 2.5.21) in saving a relation between
an actor and another object, with the actor being the stationary object.
- When FrameForge is starting up, it automatically adds default search
keywords to any object that does not already have search keywords.
Previously, default search keywords were only added to an object if you
viewed the object within the Object Library.
- Fixed a typo in the splash screen.
- Prepared for upcoming component pack updates.
FrameForge Version 2.5.23, August 28, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed a bug that caused a set or shot not to load in some cases when an actor was glued to objects not touching it. This bug was introduced in version 2.5.21.
- Fixed a bug that caused an actor to jump up in the air when the “Swap Object Positions” command was used.
FrameForge Version 2.5.22, August 24, 2007
New Features
- QuickTime movie exporting now gives you more control over type of compression, frame rate, and other settings. With the default settings, the resulting movie is often smaller and more compatible.
- There is a new option of exporting shots as AVI video. While the resulting file is typically larger than the comparable QuickTime movie, some video software supports AVI but not QuickTime.
FBX to FrameForge Converter 1.5.1, August 17, 2007
This update detects another problematic situation, FBX models with “pivot sets” for some bones.
FrameForge Version 2.5.21, August 13, 2007
New Features
- The Select by Name window has a new menu to filter what kinds of objects
are listed.
- The Edit Set Parameters dialog now has little buttons to edit the floor
dimensions numerically, as an alternative to the sliders.
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed a bug in saving a relation in which the stationary partner is
scaled.
- Fixed a bug that sometimes caused incorrect blueprint images when things
were glued to walls.
- Fixed a bug that caused glued items to disappear from view under certain
unusual circumstances.
- Fixed a bug in the appearance of a wine bottle glued to an actor’s
hand.
- The logging of skipped textures, introduced in the previous update, was
omitting skipped decals.
- You can percolate changes to the state of more than one object at a
time.
FBX to FrameForge Converter 1.5, August 3, 2007
This update adds the ability to rename mesh parts, mark mesh parts optional, and flip normal vectors on individual parts.
FrameForge Version 2.5.20, July 23, 2007
New Features
- If you option-click on the Mirror Bones button in the
Green Room or the Edit Pose on Set window, then the bones are mirrored
symmetrically. That is, the left side becomes the mirror image of the
original state of the right side and the right side becomes the
mirror image of the original state of the left side.
- When you skip missing objects or textures during the loading of a
document, set, or shot, the names of missing items will be written to
log files in the folder ~/Library/Logs/FrameForge3D (i.e., in the
FrameForge3D folder in the Logs folder in the Library folder in your
home folder). You can view these files in the Console utility, or open
them with a text editor such as TextEdit.
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- The script window no longer scrolls to the beginning after you finish
associating a shot with script text.
- Bug fixes in tweening:
- When an object is not elevated in one key frame, and
is elevated in the next key frame, it should be elevated in tweens.
- Sometimes objects were reseated even though they did not change position from one key frame to the next.
- Fixed a bug that caused a newly-added actor’s fingernails to have the
wrong color on Intel Macs. (Unfortunately this fix cannot correct the
color of fingernails of actors that have already been recorded in shots.)
- Fixed a problem that could cause a file saved on a Mac not to load
properly on Windows if it referred to a custom object having a file name
containing non-ASCII characters.
Object Library, July 16, 2007
- Horses - there are 6 horses in the Animals folder.
- Actor files have been optimized to use memory more efficiently.
- Various objects that were previously available as downloads in the community forum are now provided via WebGrab.
FrameForge Version 2.5.19, July 16, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Compatibility update for upcoming changes to Object Library.
FrameForge Version 2.5.18, July 9, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed a bug in which a door with something glued to it was
chopped in half on coming out of the Green Room.
- Fixed a bug that, in some cases, caused the main view to turn red when
one used cartoon rendering with depth of field.
- When you edit a texture file in the texture library and
then reapply it to a part in the Green Room, all uses of that
texture will update.
- In the Green Room, the Reset to Embedded button dims after you click
it, since you only need this button when the standard texture has
been replaced or removed.
- In the unlikely event that an object library folder is missing many
thumbnail images, the process of creating the images will not prevent
you from using FrameForge.
- Reduced memory usage by textures built into actors.
- Reduced time for initial loading of a complex scene, due to a
bug introduced in May.
FrameForge Version 2.5.17, June 19, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed a bug that sometimes caused the floor texture to disappear when
using cartoon rendering.
Object Library, June 19, 2007
- Babies — There are now babies in four ethnicities in the Actors (Babies) folder. They are fully posable, have a diaper that can be removed, opened, and closed, and have full facial expressions. At present there are no predefined relationships for them, so if you build any before we do, please post them in the Community Forum.
FrameForge Version 2.5.16, June 7, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- A recently-introduced bug in applying relations has been fixed.
- When a monitor is disconnected, FrameForge windows will move
to the remaining monitor.
- Blueprint images in the Shot Manager and printouts will now have a
standard level of light, with the floor area being light gray and
untextured wall tops being black.
- There have been internal changes for compatibility with certain objects
that are coming soon.
FrameForge Version 2.5.15, May 31, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed a bug that caused a vicious cycle of error messages when you
typed a number starting with 0 in the numeric scale dialog.
- Fixed a bug in which applying a relationship with an object that was
non-uniformly scaled caused the other object to become scaled.
FrameForge Version 2.5.14, May 21, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed a bug in cartoon rendering, in which walls sometimes lacked the
appropriate texture or were drawn in the wrong shade.
- Fixed a bug that caused all monitors to remain as test patterns on
certain machines.
FrameForge Version 2.5.13, May 11, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed a crash when leaving Free Positioning Mode if the
Edit Pose on Set window is open.
- Fixed a bug in percolation of object state, which
failed to percolate a texture that was
not already present in the shots being updated.
- Fixed a bug in the Percolate > Swap Objects in Shots
function.
- Fixed a bug in which certain menu items were dimmed when they
should have been available, after switching between the shot manager
and the control room.
FBX to FrameForge Converter 1.1.1, May 10, 2007
This update fixes a crash on machines with ATI video cards.
FrameForge Version 2.5.12, May 5, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed a bug that caused a crash on some Macs with ATI video cards.
FrameForge Version 2.5.11, May 2, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- When you import multiple shots as graphics, they will be inserted in
order of the file names, rather than the previous unpredictable order.
- When you drop in a user object that does not specify a pose, then the
base pose will be applied. (This mainly concerns “characters”, i.e.,
user objects based on actors.)
- It is now possible to export poses from a pose file whose extension is
.Pose rather than .pose.
- Importing objects from VRML is less likely to result in missing small
triangles.
WebGrab 6.1, May 1, 2007
This version will immediately start checking for updates instead of waiting for the Start button, if you are already online.
FBX to FrameForge Converter 1.1, April 30, 2007
See the original announcement of this program. The update improves detection and reporting of certain problems, and can handle models in which a mesh has multiple maps. If you have the previous version, WebGrab will offer the update. If not, WebGrab will not check it in the update list, but you can manually check it to get the new version.
FrameForge Version 2.5.10, April 16, 2007
New Features
- There is a new Percolate Rendering Style command on the View menu, to change the rendering style of shots you have already snapped.
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
Several improvements have been made to the Room Builder:
- A bug that sometimes caused walls to disappear has been fixed.
- When there are objects on the set other than walls and cameras, the Room Builder will preserve the locations of the walls relative to the other objects, provided you don’t move the walls within Room Builder.
- When there are no objects on the set other than walls and cameras, the Room Builder will preserve alignment to the Room Builder grid.
FrameForge Version 2.5.9, April 9, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Saving True FrameForge Objects:
- Hinge parts are hidden when the thumbnail image is created.
- Fixed a bug in saving using the Simple view of the Save Virtual Object dialog.
- Fixed a bug in which ungluing objects that were glued when the project/set/shot was loaded resulted in objects with incorrect selection boxes.
- Fixed a crash if you clicked the A button in blueprint view and there was no camera on the set.
- The S button (zoom blueprint to show selection) will be enabled when there is something selected, without requiring a camera on the set.
FrameForge Version 2.5.8, April 3, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed a bug in handling permanent object substitutions.
- Added a sanity check for corrupt objects when loading projects, sets, or shots. If a corrupt object is detected, you will see a “Corrupt Object Position” error message, and the object will not be loaded. (If you discover a repeatable set of operations that produces a corrupt object, please let us know!)
- When a wall is glued to some other object that is not touching the wall,
the other object will generally be made part of the wall, rather than
the other way around.
FrameForge Version 2.5.7, March 21, 2007
New Features
- Drag and Drop Importing: One can drop a .set, .pose,
or .relation file on the FrameForge program icon to open
the appropriate import dialog.
- Texture Importing: When you choose a texture, you can
choose an image file that is not
in the Texture Library and have it copied there.
- Drag and Drop Object Installation: Object files
(.3dxf, .uzp, etc.) can be dropped into the object
library list or icon palette to install them in the object
library.
- Tools > Manage Support Folders: The Tools menu has
new items to open the Object Library and
Texture Library folders in the Finder.
FrameForge Version 2.5.6, March 9, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed a bug that caused a crash when using cartoon-style rendering.
- Improved error messages for VRML import.
- Allow import of VRML files with the extension ".wrz".
FrameForge Version 2.5.5, February 26, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- There is a new option in the Green Room to display the skeleton of an actor.
- Fixed a bug in gluing 3 or more objects, one of which is a wall.
- Fixed a bug in unpacking .uzp archives containing certain kinds of
textures.
FrameForge Version 2.5.4, January 17, 2007
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed serious bugs introduced in version 2.5.3 (a crash when using an
ATI video card, and incorrect shot colors on Intel Macs.)
- Fixed bugs in updating the enabled/disabled state of the "Print
Selected" button in the Shot Manager.
- The "Show Deleted" button in the Shot Manager now toggles between "Show
Deleted" and "Hide Deleted" instead of indicating its state by the darkness of the button.
FrameForge Version 2.5.3, January 16, 2007
New Features:
- The Edit Set Parameters and New
Set/Location dialogs can now set a default color or texture for walls on the set. When you drop in a new wall, or add a new wall with Room Builder, it will be assigned the default color or texture. Also, when you set the default, you will have option of converting existing walls to that color.
- The Edit Set Parameters dialog has a new checkbox to
percolate its settings (floor texture, wall height, etc.) to shots that you have snapped with that set.
- Large Set Option: The Preferences dialog has been
rearranged, and under the Set Options tab there is a new checkbox to Allow Large Sets. This allows a set 3 times as large as previously allowed. This option is designed to allow you to create large vistas, but if you populate them with whole cities or the like, the program will slow down significantly. So use this function thoughtfully.
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Pose, Relationship Import & Export: when you export
poses or relationships from this version of FrameForge, the actor or object name is now embedded within the file. The benefit is that if the file name is changed in e-mail transmission or by our community web site, FrameForge will still be able to import from it correctly.
- The small monitors along the top of the control room
update with a lower priority, so that main monitor will be more responsive.
- The numeric scaling dialog has been updated to better
support large numbers, to aid the use of the large set option.
- Fixed a display issue when an actor was extremely close
to a wide-angle lens.
- When you have snapped a new shot using the Associate with
Script option in the shot data dialog, and the previous shot has associated script text, the script window will scroll to the end of the script text for the previous shot.
Object Library Improvements:
- Optimized Male Actor — our adult male actor has
been optimized to load and render about 30% faster.
- Fixed the Man’s Shorts — they were previously
distorting oddly when his thighs were moved.
WebGrab Version 6.0.3, January 16, 2007
This is a minor update to ensure correct behavior on pose files even if the extension is .Pose instead of .pose.
FrameForge Version 2.5.2, December 5, 2006
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed an incompatibility with network home directories.
WebGrab Version 6.0.2, November 27, 2006
This is a very minor update to make certain error messages handle long file names correctly.
FrameForge Version 2.5.1, November 21, 2006
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- The "Purge Tweened Shots" menu command is now available when there are tweens.
- Creation of QuickTime slide shows has been improved to avoid flashing
when played back.
- Fixed a bug in the display of a translucent object with a
non-uniform scale.
FrameForge Version 2.5, November 15, 2006
Follow this link for details about new features in this update. There were also many bug fixes and improvements, including the following.
- Fixed a bug in percolation that stored incorrect blueprint images.
- Fixed a bug in exporting user objects, which was failing to include
custom textures.
- Fixed a bug in printing and exporting: If you selected frames by scene,
you only got the first frame in each scene.
- Fixed a bug that could cause a crash if you closed the document while
the "Edit Pose on Set" dialog was showing.
- Opening project files is somewhat faster (in some cases much
faster.)
- Fixed the navigation buttons in the shot data area of the Shot
Manager so they behave as designed. They are not supposed to do
a "synch" automatically, and the ones that jump by scene were
not always working correctly.
- Fixed a bug in which one could not use both translucency and tiling
on textured parts.
Object Library, August 1, 2006
- Actor Clothes Rendering Improvement -- In extreme
positions, actors' skin or clothes can "break through" the top layer of
clothes, resulting in an unattractive visual artifact. This has been
greatly improved so that a vast majority of these issues have been
completely corrected, while those that are left are generally diminished
in their severity.
FrameForge Version 2.2.3, July 27, 2006
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- It is even less likely that an “incorrect positioning values” error will
stop something from loading.
- It is less likely that a problem loading one object will stop a whole
scene from loading.
- If you are asked to provide a substitute for a missing decal texture,
and you choose to skip it, you will not see an error message saying that
the texture is missing.
FrameForge Version 2.2.2, July 25, 2006
New Features:
When importing a VRML object, there are new options to mark the object as topography or as non-colliding.
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- In the HTML produced by storyboard export, the pop-up menu works in more
browsers.
- Fixed a problem with the long shot text, where bold or italic styles
sometimes got lost, depending on the font.
- Improved VRML import of objects made in SketchUp.
- One can update a third-party user object just by dropping in a new .uzp
file. Previously it would have been necessary to delete the old user
object first, or to manually delete the corresponding object state
collection.
- Fixed a bug in which there was sometimes no error message after a set or
shot had failed to load completely.
- It is less likely that you will see an error message about incorrect
positioning values.
Object Library, July 24, 2006
There were errors in two relation files, double stairs.relation and spiral staircase.relation, which prevented them from loading. The error in the spiral staircase relations was fixed a couple of months ago (and mentioned on the community web site, but not here), so if you bought FrameForge recently you may have the right spiral staircase relations.
To get the corrected versions of these files, you need to:
- Open WebGrab and click the Start button.
- If it tells you that no updates are needed, tell it to continue anyway.
- Click twice on the Version column heading. This will put the most recent dated updates at the top of the list.
- Put check marks next to double stairs.relation and spiral staircase.relation.
- Click the Download button.
In case you were wondering why WebGrab didn’t check the updates automatically, it’s because you might have created some of your own custom relationships, and we don’t want to wipe out your customizations by installing our version of the file. But in this case, the files were unreadable, so you wouldn’t have been able to customize them anyway.
FrameForge Version 2.2.1, July 5, 2006
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- In the Shot Manager, you can add arrows to the blueprints as well as
the shot images.
- Fixed a bug in renaming parts when converting a user object to a True
FrameForge object.
- Fixed a bug in creation of a user object based on a wall, in which the
tile/stretch state of the texture was not recorded.
- The Shot Manager’s blueprint window remembers where you last put
it.
Object Library, June 27, 2006
There are optional updates to the child base actors, actor (boy).czp and actor (girl).czp, giving the children the option to wear ties. To get these updated actors, you need to MANUALLY check them in the WebGrab list.
FrameForge Version 2.2, June 27, 2006
New Features:
- You can give an instance of an object an “alias”, either by selecting
the object and choosing Set/Edit Object Alias from the
Objects menu, or by double-clicking a name in the
Select by Name list.
- The dialog in which you export storyboards can now also create shot
lists, in tab-delimited or RTF table format.
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- The Edit Pose on Set dialog has a Mirror button, a
feature that already existed in the Green Room.
- When exporting storyboard data, the progress dialog has a Cancel button,
and no longer has other progress dialogs popping up in front of it.
- Missing decal textures are treated more like missing ordinary textures,
giving you a chance to designate a substitute.
- There is a clearer error message if you try to run FrameForge on a
locked disk such as a disk image or CD-ROM.
WebGrab 6.0.1, June 9, 2006
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- This version is less likely to show “file busy” errors in the presense of antivirus software.
- Fixed a bug that caused manually-checked .app packages not to be updated completely.
- If you try to use it under an OS earlier than 10.3.9, it shows a message rather than just quitting.
FrameForge Version 2.1.5, June 8, 2006
NOTE: If you were using one of the public betas of 2.1.5, you should remove it from your program folder before running WebGrab, to ensure that WebGrab does not get confused about which copy of FrameForge to update.
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- This is a “universal binary”, meaning that it contains machine code for
both Intel chips and PowerPC chips, and thus will run faster than before on Macs
with Intel processors.
- Fixed a bug in creation of user objects, in which files that should have
been created on the desktop went elsewhere.
- Allow deleting multiple shots at once in Shot Manager.
- Fixed bug in which the Program News window did not draw itself if it
appeared behind the set builder helper dialog.
- If you do a Save As of a file onto itself just to specify the file format,
a previously-saved file (.ffbk) file is created as it is when you do a
normal Save.
- If you have set the preference to store blueprints, but certain shots lack
blueprints, and then you attempt to export shots with blueprints or HTML
with blueprints, missing blueprints will be generated for you and stored
in the project file.
- In the Shot Manager, when you attempt to look at a blueprint that is
missing, the blueprint window tells you a little more about why the
image is missing.
- If you snap a shot that replaces a shot that was done with depth of field,
but no depth of field settings are currently in effect, you will be
asked whether you want to use the same depth of field settings as in the
shot that you are replacing.
- If you are running OS 10.4 or better, you can choose PDF as the format for
"Edit in Paint Program". This makes it possible to use Apple’s
Preview.app to make simple oval and text annotations.
- When you load a file, set, or shot containing missing textures, you will
have an opportunity to choose substitutes.
- When exporting shots at a user-defined size, you have an option to
antialias the images.
- Fixed a typo in the Export Storyboard dialog.
- If you try to launch it on a version of Mac OS X before 10.3.9, it gives a
message instead of just quitting.
Object Library, May 25, 2006
The Taco Bell object’s roof is now invisible in blueprint view, allowing you to see the action inside.
Object Library, May 24, 2006
It was brought to our attention that it was not possible to apply a title and author to the book object by pasting on a texture. For reasons of compatibility, we have added a new book object, called texturable book, instead of changing the old object. The new one is available by WebGrab.
WebGrab 6.0, May 9, 2006
This version of WebGrab is a universal binary, meaning that it runs natively on Intel Macs. Its name is WebGrab-FF2.app, but will appear to have the same name as the older version, WebGrab-FF2, unless you have set your Finder to display extensions. When you choose Check for Program Updates from the Help menu of the current version of FrameForge, FrameForge will prefer the new version of WebGrab if both are present.
You can download the new WebGrab here and put it in your FrameForge 3D Studio V2 folder. Although the old WebGrab can get the new one (except for those of you having problems with the old WebGrab on Intel Macs), it is likely to end up with a generic icon, so it may be preferable to download the new version directly.
The new version has some benefits even for those not using Intel Macs:
- If you are running Tiger (Mac OS 10.4 or later) and your hard drive has the usual Mac OS Extended format, the searching phase of WebGrab will be significantly faster, except for the first time you run the new version.
- If FrameForge is running at the time that you tell WebGrab to start downloading updates, WebGrab will attempt to quit FrameForge for you, instead of always waiting for you to do it.
- If WebGrab has been running in the background and needs your attention, it will bounce its Dock icon instead of putting a message in front of you.
- There is an option (a preference) to download by HTTP rather than FTP. For most people, this won’t make a difference, but it could help when dealing with firewall problems.
- If you click the Stop button during a download, it will stop the entire process, not just the one download.
Version 2.1.4, May 5, 2006
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- A bug introduced in version 2.1.2 made object searches much slower than they should have been. This update will restore the previous speed. However, if you did searches with version 2.1.2 or 2.1.3, FrameForge will have overridden some of the standard search keywords. If you wish, you can remove these overrides, although doing so will also remove any search keywords that you deliberately customized. To do so (with FrameForge not running) go to your home folder (whose name is your short user name), open the Library folder, then open the Preferences folder therein, then look for the file named com.frameforge3d.keywords.plist. Trash this file.
- We have modified the way that textures get magnified. Although this change makes the standard floor texture look blurrier, it makes actors look better in close-up.
Version 2.1.3, May 4, 2006
New Features:
- Next to the object search field, there is a small button that will take your web browser to the search page on the FrameForge community web site.
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed a crash if the Edit Pose on Set window was open when you exited from Free Positioning Mode.
- After reloading a shot from the Shot Manager, some of the little buttons in the storyboard preview area were sometimes incorrectly dimmed.
- Several bugs introduced in version 2.1.2 have been fixed:
- After a crash, the timed backup was not being opened.
- On opening a project started with FrameForge 1, certain objects were not being located correctly.
- When saving a pose for a version 2 actor, the joint dots were not being initialized correctly.
Version 2.1.2, May 1, 2006
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- When Shot Manager and Associated Script windows are both open, and you change the selected shot in the Shot Manager, the Script window changes its current shot to match.
- If a recently opened file is in the trash, you cannot open it from the Open Recent submenu.
- In the "set builder helper" dialog, the Escape key activates the No Help button.
- If an actor object is missing the textures that would be used to age the skin, FrameForge will not show error messages about it. (This was not an issue for the actors that are standard with FrameForge, but happened for some actors posted in the community forums.)
- Changing an actor’s age no longer makes facial decals (such as scars) disappear.
- Fixed a bug in conversion of a user object to a true FrameForge object when one of the parts was the "arch (half)" building block.
- Another bug in conversion of a user object to a true FrameForge object sometimes resulted in part names being permuted.
- This isn’t exactly an improvement, but in various places where you see a relative path to a member of the object library, the components of the path will be separated by slashes instead of colons. This is a result of some code modernization in preparation for building a "universal binary".
Version 2.1.1, April 11, 2006
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Improved the use of texture memory, so that there will be less slowdown when there are many objects with the same texture.
- To change the eye color of an actor whose age is greater than 20, you no longer need to remove the standard eye texture first.
- It is easier to get correct behavior when gluing objects to hinge objects.
Object Library Updates, April 7, 2006
A Wall no longer gets selected when touching something that you click, such as a piece of furniture against the wall.
Version 2.1, April 3, 2006
New Features:
- At last the Room Builder is available on the Mac!
- When you start FrameForge, make a new document, or make a new set, you will see a new dialog that gives you various choices such as opening Room Builder or editing set parameters. This can be turned off by a preference.
- The Percolate submenu has another option, to add the object to shots that do not already contain it.
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Worked around a bug in Apple's Rosetta which caused a crash on snapping a shot on the new Macs with Intel CPUs.
- The End button in the storyboard preview area now takes you to the last shot, as it should.
- Fixed a bug that caused certain shots to restore more and more slowly when repeatedly restored.
Version 2.0.7, March 21, 2006
New Features:
- There are new options to Percolate changes through previously-recorded shots. Besides percolating object state changes, you can remove an object, or swap a new object for an old object.
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed a bug that caused a crash after switching off the floor of a panorama object.
Object Library Updates:
- Updated the panoramas to versions that allow the floor to be switched off. (If you elected not to install most panoramas when you installed FrameForge, the panorama updates will not show up with checkmarks in WebGrab. However, you could find them in the list and check them manually. The file names are: balboa park.3dxf, baseball field.3dxf, beach.3dxf, city street.3dxf, courtyard.3dxf, field.3dxf, pier.3dxf, reflecting pool.3dxf, trolley station.3dxf, trolly #2.3dxf, under balcony.3dxf.)
Version 2.0.6, March 7, 2006
New Features:
- When importing a VRML object, there is a new option to remember the settings for future imports.
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed a bug in saving objects with certain kinds of joints (e.g., version 1 actors and the horse) as True FrameForge Objects.
- Fixed a bug in which the initial position of the main window was above the menu bar.
Version 2.0.5, February 10, 2006
New Features:
There is a new preference to do "Edit in Paint Program" using a JPEG file
instead of a PICT file, in case that works better for some paint programs.
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed an occasional crash after closing the Edit Pose on Set window.
- Fixed a bug in VRML import of an object having a hinge as a top-level group.
- In the decal editing dialog, the "Copy Base to Clipboard" button was not
working under some versions of QuickTime.
Object Library Updates:
Some .scale file updates are posted. These small files modify the size of an object when it is dropped into a set. They do not modify the sizes of objects that are already recorded in sets and shots.
Version 2.0.4, February 6, 2006
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed bug in expression editor, where the position of the actor’s head
was thrown off by objects glued to the actor.
- Fixed a bug in which open doors sometimes printed wrong.
- One can include extended camera data in HTML export.
- Control pad configuration includes a sensitivity slider.
- One can use shift instead of option to speed up throttles. (This is a convenience for using a control pad, since our control pad configuration has a shift button but not an option button.)
Version 2.0.3, January 31, 2006
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Just-in-case backups, as documented in the User Guide, are now implemented on the Mac. When you decline to save changes on closing a window or quitting the program, this feature saves a copy of the file anyway. These files are stored in a folder named “Just-in-Case Files” within your Documents folder. If a just-in-case backup is not modified in more than 2 weeks, it will be moved to the Trash. You can turn off just-in-case backups by a checkbox in the Preferences dialog.
- There are several new keyboard shortcuts:
- When a throttle is in a mouse mode, for example when you have
clicked the small M button below the Dolly throttle, you can control
the throttle using arrow keys as an alternative to using the mouse.
Pressing the option key along with an arrow key makes the throttle
work with a larger increment, and pressing the control key makes the
throttle work with a smaller increment.
- The function keys F1 through F10 can be used to focus a throttle
for mouse mode or arrow key control. Note, however, that some of
these shortcuts may be preempted by Apple software. For
example, in Tiger, Exposé claims F9 and F10 by default. You can
change those shortcuts, or for that matter change menu item
shortcuts in FrameForge, using the “Keyboard & Mouse” preference
panel.
- You can switch the live camera by typing a digit, so long as the
live view (rather than the search field or object hierarchy list)
has keyboard focus, as indicated by a blue outline around the live
view. For instance typing 0 selects the blueprint view, and typing
1 selects the camera for the first small monitor.
- You can snap a shot by typing a control-digit corresponding to
the camera’s monitor, for example control-1 snaps a shot for the
first camera.
- The numeric elevation dialog shows a decimal point for finer control,
and displays negative elevations correctly.
- Fixed a bug in which a user object converted to a true FrameForge object
used the tilt and orientation from the Green Room instead of from the main
set.
- By holding the control key while the program is starting up, you get a
chance to turn hardware-accelerated rendering on or off.
- When registering with an upgrade serial number, you will only be asked
for the version 1 serial number the first time you do it.
Version 2.0.2, January 21, 2006
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Previously the Open dialog did not let you choose a .previz file that had been saved on Windows.
Library Updates
We have updated the version 2 actors in a way that makes them load and render faster.
Version 2.0.1, January 19, 2006
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
- Fixed a crash when one switched to a set that did not have a camera.
- Fixed a bug in the Percolate Object State function when the selected object had something glued to it. In that case percolation caused the subobjects to become duplicated.
Version 2.0, January 18, 2006
This is the initial release, no updates yet.
